about me

My name is Lutze (Loot-see) Segu and I am a digital Black Feminist, social justice practitioner, and anti-racist consultant. I call myself the Social Justice Doula because a doula, in the traditional sense of the word, is a birthworker who guides and supports in creating the conditions for birth and labor to happen. As the Social Justice Doula, I guide and support people, organizations, and institutions in creating the conditions for their social justice practice to take shape and bring life into their values. I am a PhD candidate and a lifelong nerd, which means I am always reading, writing, thinking of new ideas and as a person in the digital space, I am also building a community of people who are serious about taking their practice to a deeper level. All of this culminated in my decision to create a newsletter where I could share my ideas as well as the ideas of thinkers, writers, and podcasters that have been sparking interesting dialogue in the social justice sphere.

Theory + practice = PRAXIS is a bi-monthly newsletter rooted in digital Black feminism. It is a thoughtfully curated offering that includes the following sections:

  • A note from Lutze, a letter to my subscriber community.

  • What is currently bringing me joy, a section dedicated to sharing sources of joy and happiness in my life.

  • The Non-profit corner a section dedicated to ideas and practices I am noticing in my work as a Black feminist consultant.

  • Love and relationships a section for thoughts and analysis on love through a Black feminist lens.

  • Social Justice Doula, a section dedicated to covering a Social Justice topic I am currently thinking about, with additional viewing recommendations, announcements, and more.

Subscribers get first access to original essays, critical analysis, recommendations for podcasts and social justice articles, and occasional restaurant reviews paired with pics from places Iโ€™ve been hanging out at. The newsletter is completely free but supporting my work is always welcomed and appreciated. There are many ways to support me:

  1. Please email me and tell me about your experience with the newsletter. I love hearing from you. It truly makes my day and sometimes my week!

  2. Share my newsletter, and social media handles with like-minded people.

  3. If you follow me on social media, like, share, and engage with my posts.

  4. If you subscribe to my newsletter, actually open the email.

  5. Become a Patron (no matter what contribution level you choose, you get the same content!)

  6. Hire me. Invite me to speak to your organization, school or work with me 1:1 as a coaching client.

If youโ€™re not subscribed to my newsletter yet, consider this your official invitation to join the SJD community.
